Conquest of High Sierra Trail

The latest hike takes me deep into Sequoia National Park along the High Sierra Trail. The first leg starts from the Crescent Meadows parking lot. Look for bears! They like to hang out in the area.

No sooner than my feet left the relative safety of the parking lot, I found myself sharing the trail with a teen aged, (in bear years), butterscotch colored bear. It meandered over a small wooden bridge without a care in the world. What to do? Obviously bears can be cranky at times. I for one did not want to put this – at first glance– benign mood to the test.

At that moment the bear, having had enough trail exercise, ducked left of the bridge and disappeared into the thick green underbrush on the far side. With newly found confidence, I boldly breezed over the bridge, rounded the corner of the rapidly ascending High Sierra Trail and left "
butterscotch" to his morning breakfast of tender shoots.

Half Dome Hike

Hiking Half Dome was awesome! If you have never attempted it, get thee to the Curry Village parking lot and give it a try.
